Beginning of the end of the first quarter of 2025

March 1, 2025

The growth in the European aviation market is still high, but some clouds are growing in Spain, France and Norway for the upcoming summer season.

"One of Norway's largest helicopter companies, Helitrans AS has just filed for bankruptcy and several airlines struggle with local authorities in Spain and France, says CEO Markus Johansson.

We can only hope that the flight schools in Europe manage to keep up with the rising demand for new pilots in the market.

Flying start on 2025

February 4, 2025

"The new year has really taken off with a great start! Several airlines and manufacturers have released their reports and the passenger growth in Europe has been amazing!, says CEO Markus Johansson.

The aviation industry outlook for the year and next, 25-2026 is positive, but there are some clouds in the sky.
Uncertainty about the political developments and the risk of higher oil prices, inflation and interest rates are the main concerns.

But still, the outlook and demand for new pilots in Europe and the US are high and the expansions of routes and orders of new aircrafts are still very high in these regions.

"We at Skyhiring are very optimistic and our order books are very solid", says CEO Markus Johansson

Career Opportunities for Flight Instructors in Sweden

November15, 2024

The airline industry are searching everywhere for new cadet pilots, but there is also a large lack of flight instructors to train all future pilots.

The flight instructor are responsible for the complete flight lesson with a student pilot.

Conducting a pre- & and post-briefing with the student and making sure the aircraft is airworthy.

A flight instructor needs to be able to handle stress, see the "big picture" and show great skills not only as an instructor but also as a  mentor for the students.

"The flight instructor is the commander of the aircraft, PIC - Pilot In Command and that is a great responsibility, says Head of Training Markus Johansson

Flying and operating in Scandinavian weather conditions requires proper weather planning from both the instructor and the student, everything for a safe flight.

As a instructor, you can possess several different roles and positions, such as:

Ground school instructor - Theoretical instructor

Basic Flight instructor - PPL flight instructor

Advanced Flight instructor - CPL ME IR flight instructor

With time, experience and right attitude, you can also advanced to become a nominated postholder;

CTKI - Head of Theory training

CFI - Head of Flight training

HT - Head of Training (ultimately responsible for all training)

Future Career Trends for Flight Instructors?

The demand of instructors will not decrease, there is a huge lack of instructors and we really need good, safe and skillful instructors.

The Flight Instructor Course take around 3-6 months and its definitely worth to gain the additional knowledge and ratings", says Head of Training Markus Johansson

Skyhiring is one of the best places to get a Flight Instructor rating through.

Skyhiring has a very strong partnership to several of the leading flight academies in Sweden and provides exceptional training for student pilots.

By enrolling with Skyrhiring, students and instructors can become part of the aviation environment right from day one.

The Successful Path to Becoming an Airline Pilot

Oktober 8, 2024

How to proceed after graduating your pilot studies?

How do I get my first airline pilot job after graduation?
How do I successfully pass the airline assessment?
What can I do to maximize my chances in an interview?

These are typical questions Head of Training Markus Johansson get from student pilots.

And to be honest, the path is quite straight forward...

Embarking on a career as a pilot typically begins with a strong foundation in education and specialized training.
To gain as much knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to pursue a commercial pilot license and eventually after graduation, be able to pass an airline assessment require a lot of hard work, with long days of studies and to be curious. "Dont be afraid of failing, get up and learn from the mistakes" is an advice Head of Training Markus Johansson give his students.

Essential Skills for a cadet pilot :

• Technical Knowledge: Pilots must have a deep understanding of aircraft systems, navigation, meteorology and aviation regulations.

• Communication: Effective communication with is crucial for safe and efficient operations.

• Problem-solving: Pilots must be able to make quick decisions and solve problems under pressure, especially during emergencies.

Situational Awareness: Maintaining awareness of the aircraft’s position and potential hazards is vital for a safe operations.

The Shortage of Pilots

September21, 2024

There have been a shortage of pilots since pre-covid when the industry was in her peak.

According to International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects a lack of approximately 800,000 pilots by 2039. And Boeings forecast is even higher with 890,000 pilots by 2042, mostly due to an increase of air traveling demand and pilot retirements.

Forecast Breakdown for pilots by region :

* Asia-Pacific: 371,000 new pilots

(the SouthEast and Pacific region, has for over three decades got an staggering demand of new pilots, the middle east and central Asia region such as India including Africa has a very low demand, numbers below)

* North America: 226,000 new pilots

(there is a huge demand of new pilots in the USA, and FAA has even lowered the previously minimum 1,500 hrs demand to 1,000 hrs)

* Europe: 141,000 new pilots

(still a growing mature market, with the expansion of low cost carrier driven up the demand of new pilots)

* Middle East, central Asia & Africa: 85,000 new pilots

(a very low demand and most of these forecasted pilots is from the gulf states airlines, there has never been any boom of aviation in these regions and unfortunately there is no increasing forecast from any of the airplane manufactors nor IATA.

With regards to the forecast from the industry, the future is still in the three biggest and oldest markets;

Europe, North America and South East Asia (China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore)

Why is the shortage happening?

1. Retirement wave

(most commercial pilots retires at age of 60)

2. Training bottlenecks

(lack of flight instructors, 2-years educational backlog and most flight schools are privately funded)

3. Increasing traveling demand

More people get access to cheap flights, mostly due to the expansions of the LCCs operations allowing more people to travel.

Skyrocketing Salaries!

August 6, 2024

"Forget waiting years to see a decent paycheck, the pilot shortage has sent salaries soaring!" says CEO Markus Johansson

With the shortage of pilots around the globe, especially in Europe, the USA and South East Asia (China, Thailand, Singapore and Japan) the salaries has skyrocketing and bigger paychecks and top-notch perks are to be awaiting for new commercial pilots.

More airlines has no longer a backlog of Senior first officers waiting to be upgraded and transferred into the left seat, there is actually a lack of Captains and more and more airlines are advertising for Direct Entry Captain positions.

Leading airlines in Europe such Ryanair and EasyJet, are not only the most profitable airlines in the world, they are also paying their flight crew the biggest paycheck as well.

Important Things About Being a Pilot

June 14, 2024

Becoming a pilot requires more than just flight simulator hours and technical skills.

Pilots needs today more and more of the "soft" attitude and skills.

Which means to be openminded, humble and able to communicate is more crucial today than for 15 years ago.

- They also require strong discipline, attention to details and to be able to stay focused under a long period of time and follow the procedures.

- A rule is also that you will always continue to grow and learn, you will never be fully learned.

"Im looking for a pilot who are always prepared for the unexpected", Head of Training Markus Johansson states.
